Breana Harmon, 19, will face 10 years in prison after falsely claiming two black men attempted to rape her while a third held her down back in March.
According to the New York Daily News, Harmon told authorities the alleged masked suspects also said they would sexually assault her again if they caught her.
While she attempted to make the alleged sexual assault appear as though it really occurred by running into a church barely clothed in a bra, shirt, and underwear, it still didn’t quite match up.
For one: there was no proof the teen experienced a sexual assault after being further examined by a nurse, and the cuts in the jeans found did not align with those in her legs, according to the Herald Democrat.
Harmon told authorities, “things from her past started going through her head” and she had “began cutting herself and her jeans,” according to the newspaper.
Sources also say Samuel Hollingsworth, Harmon’s former fiancé, bought her pepper spray and a pocket knife the day of the alleged assault, after previously telling him about local sex-trafficking.
Hollingsworth reportedly told the newspaper he is no longer in a relationship with the teen and doesn’t want any involvement whatsoever.
The teen girl revealed she lied about the attack because she did not want to admit to her mother that she cut herself. She initially faced a misdemeanor, but she was later slammed with charges for interfering with physical evidence and government records.
“The more we have looked at what happened in this case, and considered the harm it caused, and certainly could have caused, we believe what she did fits these higher charges,” Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown said in a statement. “What she did was very serious, and we believe it was felony conduct.”
