BET Responds To Gabrielle Union’s ‘Being Mary Jane’ Lawsuit

BET’s Network’s response to Gabrielle Union’s…”Imma let you finish, but hold up there.”

It’s been reported these past couple of days that actress and Chocolate Godiva Goddess Gabrielle Union is suing BET Network over breach of contract stipulations. She claims that BET is attempting to avoid a  contractual pay raise for her appearances in the hit show, “Being Mary Jane.”

According to Union, the network tried to shoot 20 episodes for the new upcoming season, but only pay her for ten. She states that the network assured her that there would never be more than 13 episodes per season. Union believes that the network is gunning for this 20 episode season  to avoid a pay rise which would entail a $15K raise to take her salary from $150K to $165K an episode.

The agreement on this pay raise was explicitly detailed in her contract as a bonus if the show was to make it to season 5. With the actress suing for $1 million dollars in damages, BET has issued a response. They state, “While we hold Gabrielle Union in the highest esteem, we feel strongly that we are contractually well within our rights and are committed to reaching a swift and positive resolution in this matter.”

My whole opinion on this situation; when you’re an esteemed actress and creator of Union’s pedigree, you deserve what you believe you’re worth. So, I believe BET should give Union the bag.
