A former Alabama high school teacher has been arrested after authorities found out that she volunteered at her child’s elementary school. 35 year old Crystal Clowdus was a math teacher when she was arrested for texting naked photos of herself to a 15-year-old male student back in 2014. She served 6 months in jail and had to register as a sex offender.
Under state law, “No adult sex offender shall apply for, accept, or maintain employment or vacation or volunteer at any school, childcare facility, mobile vending business that provides services primarily to children, or any other business or organization that provides services primarily to children.”
Clowdus must of missed that provision when she was allegedly caught volunteering at Oneonta Elementary School. Her working in any capacity within a school was a violation of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, also known as SORNA. Clowdus has a child who attends the elementary school, and therefore was allowed to be near the school premises to pick up her child and also attend after school activities with them. It was reported that she was seen ticketing entries at the door, and although she wasn’t paid, it’s still seen as a form of volunteering. This violation of her parole carries a felony charge.
Clowdus was booked into the Blount County jail Wednesday afternoon with bond set at $15,000.
