Although Dr. Dre’s alleged abusive past was omitted out of the biopic Straight Outta Compton, he publicly addressed the awful accusations because they seemed to be outshining the movie and tainting his reputation.
Back in 1991, Dee Barnes, who was a former television personality on the show Pump It Up, claims that Dr. Dre attacked her because she made comments about his group N.W.A that he did not favor. As a result, she said that Dre attempted to throw her down a flight of stairs, slam her head against a wall, kick her and stomp on her fingers. Even though the civil suit was settled outside out legal court, Barnes believed that the movie should have focused his actions.
Now Dr. Dre did not confirm or deny these allegations, however he did admit that his alcohol usage played a key role in the choices he made 25 years ago. Although he did mention he had a problem with liquor back then, the Compton native did not classify that as an excuse for his assumed actions. He has acknowledged his supposed wrongdoings and is working to never revert back to his abusive ways.
Specifically, he said, “Everyday I am working to be a better man for my family and seeking guidance along the way. I’m doing everything I can so I never resemble that man again.” In fact, he mentioned that he regrets what he did and he knows that it will affect the lives of individuals involved forever.
