Do ya’ll remember the unforgettable video for Missy Elliott’s Supa Dupa Fly debut single, “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),”where the multi-talented director Hype Williams famously fitted the female rap icon in a giant black trash bag for dramatic effect?
There’s no doubt that this creative visual was burned into the minds of countless Hip Hop fans over the years, so it was such a huge shock when Adidas Originals and Dej Loaf collaborated together to appropriate the infamous trash bag look, even going as far as to catch the small details like black lipstick.
Fans were not having it and called out Adidas Originals and Dej Loaf for taking full credit of the 90’s styled fit without the decency of sending so much as a hashtag homage to Misdemeanor’s direction.
According to Hiphopdx.com, The Adidas Originals ad featured the “Back Up” rapper alongside Mabel and Petra Collins and is said to exist in order to “help redefine the meaning of originality for a new generation of creators.”
Once the ad hit the world-wide web, fans instantly pointed out the Missy reference and got to trolling.
Ya'll couldn't just ask Missy to recreate this? https://t.co/wjOC5DKHwM
