A high school teacher from Miami, Florida has been accused of of molesting eight female students throughout his 14 year career at two different high schools. The 41 year old married father of three is looking at serious jail time.
Jason Meyers was an English and creative writing teacher at Miami Palmetto High School when he was arrested on sexual battery charges back in 2016. The revelation of his deeds have just now come to light thanks to a lawsuit filed by a former student who was one of his victims. In the suit, the victim discloses intimate and traumatic details of his abuse. It was common knowledge among several individuals at the school that Meyers called the group of students he was molesting, ‘Jason’s Girls’. And even though the school knew about the relationships, they still failed to take any action.
In the claim, the former student revealed some of the disturbing details regarding Meyers’ abuse.
He forcibly kissed her and ‘spread her legs apart, positioned his groin between her thighs, pressed his body against hers, forced his hands underneath her clothes, and fondled her body as well.’ She was 16 at the time.
The accuser also referenced another student who he had bought provocative clothes for. He would instruct her to wear the clothes to his class. She was told to write a poem entitled ‘Come Inside Me’, after reading sexually explicit material including ‘Lolita,’ ‘Lawns,’ and ‘Tess of the d’Urbervilles: A Pure Woman Faithfully Presented’. He would emphasize passages about the molestation of a young girl by her father and rape.
According to the plaintiff, he would send notes in class which said things like, ‘I’ve been thinking about you,’ and ‘I want to kiss you’.
She claims he had asked her to take naked photos of herself for him and also pressured her to have sex with him at school or at her home. She was also pressured to have sex with him at his own home.
According to the suit, the principal of the previous high school Meyers work at was emailed in 2008 regarding the teacher sleeping with girls in his class. This was at Dr. Michael M. Krop High School. However instead of firing Meyers, the school system transferred him to Palmetto High School where he continued his abuse towards female students.
The whispers grew louder when his wife Kimberly, also a teacher at Palmetto, confronted him on school ground during the 2015-16 school year.
Meyers was fired after his arrest according to a district spokesman.
