A tragic Easter Sunday story. A man portraying Judas Iscariot for an Easter passion play in Mexico accidentally hung himself. The tragic irony in this story is that the man portraying the biblical figure who betrayed Jesus and died by hanging himself, died the same way.
Jose Ignacio was killed after a rope tied around his neck slipped during the scene, cutting off his airway, according to El Universal.
Witnesses to the tragedy in Michoacán realized the scene had gone awry when the man stopped moving or breathing.
Attempts to revive Ignacio were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Police do not suspect foul play or suicide in Ignacio’s death, but the local attorney general is investigating.
