The death of emerging emo rapper Lil Peep shocked many within the music world. His untimely death became a lighting rod of deabte and conversation regarding the exploitation of drug use in hip hop. It was revealed in his toxicology report that the Long Island rapper overdosed on Fentanyl and a generic version of Xanax called alprazolam. There were other drugs in his system as well.
There were a ton of other drugs in his system though. According to the report, obtained by TMZ, he tested positive for marijuana, cocaine and the painkiller Tramadol in his blood. His urine tested positive for all those drugs, plus other powerful opiates such as Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone (Dilaudid), Oxycodone and Oxymorphone. He had no alcohol in his system.
His death turned out to be accidental. Many of his friends, family, and fans remembered him at memeorial held in Long Beach, NY. With the unfortaunate death of Peep, it’s time for hip hop to have a serious conversation within itself regarding mental health. It’s time to stop this trendy commercilization of addiction and mental illness. RIP Peep.
