The Los Angeles Lakers are now being investigated by the NBA for allegedly tampering with the process of the trade involving 4-time NBA All-Star, and current Oklahoma City Thunder forward, Paul George.
According to ESPN,
Sources: Pacers filed tampering charges vs. Lakers, probe centered on possible impermissible contact between Magic Johnson and Paul George.
Sean Highkin of The Athletic shared the NBA’s statement in response to the situation:
At the request of the Indiana Pacers, the NBA opened an investigation into alleged tampering by the Los Angeles Lakers. The independent investigation is being conducted by the law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen and Katz. The Lakers have been cooperative and, at this point, no findings have been made. We have asked both teams to refrain from commenting while the investigation is ongoing.
Looks like the fallout between the Lakers and the Pacers over the George trade has finally came to light. George, who is from the Los Angeles area, has spoken openly about his dream to play for the Lakers. George and fans were set on his arrive to Los Angeles and then it big news hit, George was headed to Oklahoma City. No one knew exactly what happened between the organizations, but now we all can see the reason why.
The OKC Thunder have been making plans on filing orders even before the trade. “This has been stewing. Am told that the Pacers made it clear they planned to file a complaint of tampering before they even traded George,” according to Norman Transcript
