Rihanna’s much anticipated album ‘Anti’ has been doing numbers since the official release date January 28 despite the album leaking online via Tidal.
Unfortunately Tidal “accidentally” uploaded their personal stream of Rih’s album Wednesday the 20th, and although it was swiftly removed the album ‘Anti’ was dubbed and leaked online.
Grace Kim, Tidal’s Director of Marketing is now speaking out about what actually happened.
“Anti moved 1.4 million in not 24 hours but 15 hours,” Kim told SPIN in defense. This was a great accomplishment for Tidal and the leak neither help or harmed ANTI according to Kim.
To add insult to injury, according to SPIN, Billboard and Nielsen are not counting the albums free downloads toward their totals. “Look, we know what happened here, in the sense that unfortunately we still rely on systems, and there was a system error. But I don’t think it hurt at all.”
And according to the numbers Rih aint missing out on nothing! The album is certified platinum by the RIAA and has been streamed over 14 million times on Tidal. A Tidal representative later assured everyone that the error was not caused by them but by Universal Music Group.
Deluxe and standard physical copies of ANTI are scheduled to be available February 5. The numbers can only go higher from here. Congrats RiRi!
